Formula One Is Just The Latest Chapter In Cadillac’s Racing Story

 Cadillac Series 61 (1950)

Cadillac made its mark in motorsports when two Series 61 cars competed in the 1950 Le Mans 24 Hours. One was a standard production model, while the other, known as “Le Monstre,” had an aerodynamically advanced body developed in a wind tunnel. Despite an early crash, these American machines finished in 10th and 11th place, proving Cadillac’s capability on an international stage.

Cadillac Northstar LMP (2000)

After 50 years, Cadillac returned to Le Mans with the Northstar LMP prototype, designed by Riley & Scott. Powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbo Northstar V8, it had a striking design but lacked the funding and aerodynamics to challenge competitors like Audi. Although improvements in 2002 led to a more competitive performance, the project was discontinued after that season.

Cadillac XLR (2004)

The Cadillac XLR was a luxury roadster with performance aspirations. While its production version did not meet expectations, its high-performance variants, including a 3,000-horsepower drag car, made it an exciting entry into Cadillac’s racing lineup. Additionally, its close relative, the Chevrolet Corvette C6.R, dominated endurance racing, securing six class wins at Le Mans.

Cadillac CTS-V (2004)

The first-generation CTS-V was Cadillac’s entry into the Speed World Challenge GT. Developed with Pratt & Miller, it secured 12 race wins and the 2005 manufacturers’ championship. This marked the beginning of Cadillac’s success in modern motorsports.

Cadillac CTS-V.R Coupe (2011)

Returning to the Pirelli World Challenge in 2011, Cadillac introduced the CTS-V.R Coupe. Competing against top GT3 manufacturers like Ferrari and Porsche, Cadillac driver Johnny O’Connell won three consecutive championships from 2012-2014, further solidifying Cadillac’s presence in competitive racing.

Cadillac ATS-V.R (2015-2017)

Cadillac continued its success with the ATS-V.R, a GT3-spec race car that Johnny O’Connell used to claim another championship in 2015. Cadillac maintained a strong presence in the Pirelli World Challenge until 2017, proving its commitment to racing excellence.

IMSA & WEC (2017 – Present)

Cadillac’s recent motorsports efforts have focused on endurance racing. The DPi-V.R dominated IMSA from 2017-2022, winning four consecutive Rolex 24 at Daytona titles. Since 2023, Cadillac has competed in IMSA’s revived GTP class and the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) with the V-Series.R, developed in collaboration with Dallara.

Preparing for Formula 1 (2026)

Looking to the future, Cadillac has announced its entry into Formula 1 in 2026, partnering with TWG Global. This marks a new and exciting chapter in Cadillac’s rich racing history, positioning the brand on the world’s premier motorsport stage.
